Here is a trending and very scary thing that’s going on all over the world, Needles in strawberries. This started in Australia and was a big news item there. But there are still many people all around the world who don’t know about this phenomenon.
This began in Australia. One man named Joshua Gane from Queensland posted on Facebook, his friend ate a needle in a strawberry. His friend Hoani Hearne, 21 had eaten a strawberry and found something strange inside.
It was a very small thin metal sewing needle. He was instantly very scared and stopped eating the strawberry. But it was too late. He already felt something strange in his stomach. It turned out he swallowed the tip of this sewing needle.
But luckily after surgery, he was okay. But he’d eaten the strawberry all in one as many people do, he may have passed away.
After this, he called the store’s manager demanding an explanation. He assumed it was likely an error with their supplier. But after contacting the supplier, they found no such error. But then after this post went viral, things went crazy.

Needles in strawberries became a Island wide problem
In a matter of weeks, there were hundreds and hundreds of reports of sewing needles inside strawberries. It was clear that somehow needles were getting into strawberries all around the country.
It is expected people were walking to stores with sewing needles and poking them into strawberries. And believe it or not, two people did eat thesis needles and had to go to the ER. one young boy was arrested as he was caught putting needles in strawberries.
He was caught on surveillance footage and then later admitted it to the police. He will now be dealt with in the mango in Australia too.
Some stores even reported needles in apples, and bananas too. Many supermarkets had to take strawberries off their shelves as people simply would not buy them. Some stores were scared that people are going to put needles in their strawberries.
The largest supermarket in Australia named Woolworths said they were removing sewing needles from their stores. This was to prevent people from buying them and putting them in strawberries.
But this is not just a health and safety issue. Instead, it’s also an economic and agricultural issue too. Because everyone was so scared about eating strawberries, no one will buy them. And in Australia strawberries are a 160 million dollar industry.
How it effect the economy
Because Farmers couldn’t see any of their strawberries in any of the shops the price dropped dramatically. That means farmers began to lose money when they are making strawberries instead of making a profit.
Also, many countries in Asia won’t have any strawberries because of that. In countries like China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Indonesia, Australia is the main exporter of strawberries. But after that those countries became too scared about needles appearing in strawberries to buy them.
One person named Stephanie even posted a video on Facebook showing her destroying strawberries. She had thousands and thousands of strawberries she couldn’t sell. Because they are simply rotting away she had to dump them on her farm. That was a really sad sight to see and a massive waste of food too.
After that things started to change in Australia. They started scanning all the strawberries by using metal detectors. But that didn’t stop needles from appearing in them after they were placed in stores.
As a response to this many people posted photos of themselves eating strawberries. They used for saying “cut them but don’t cut them out”. That’s because if you cut them you’ll see if there’s a needle in them or not. But not to cut them out of your diet, otherwise, it’ll hurt the Australian economy.
Scot Morrison, the Australian prime minister was so angry and serious about this. He called the press conference. In it, he said if you do that sort of thing in this country we will come after you. He said anyone caught doing this will face 15 years in prison and he criminalized hoaxed clams.
He said anyone making up on social media that they found a needle in strawberries will face 10 years in prison. Believe it or not, many people did post on Facebook hoax claims of them saying they found needles in strawberries when they didn’t.
15 years in prison if involved in this matter
So all of those likes and comments better be worth 10 years of your life spent behind bars. And there are now fears that this strawberry epidemic may spread around the world. So if you are planning on buying strawberries in any store no matter what country you are in, be sure to cut them before eating them. This may sound unlikely, but you never know if a needle could be in your strawberries.
Some experts say you should check before buying fruits like apples, bananas, and mangos too. Seeing as needles have been found in them as well. Now if you do this in Australia you’ll go joining for 15 years. Perhaps people will stop after that.
But other countries are still at risk because they haven’t made rules for this issue. This has happened we can say, cut them but don’t cut them out when it comes to strawberries. , Australia
